Plio anastomosis device
The Plio device is designed to allow the safe, efficient creation of an anastomosis during colorectal surgical proceduress
MedVie is developing a medical device for use in colorectal surgery procedures that require the creation of an anastomosis (intestinal connection), with the intention of improving patient safety and surgical outcomes.
A surgical anastomosis is a procedure that is commonly carried out in the treatment of colorectal cancer. The procedure typically involves the removal of a diseased section of the intestine and then reconnection of the ends of the healthy intestine. One of the most serious complications of this procedure is anastomotic leakage that can occur in up to 20% of cases. Anastomotic leakage is difficult to detect and can lead to sepsis, increased hospital stays and death.
Using a design-led approach to identify clinical needs, MedVie is developing a new minimally invasive device for the creation of an anastomosis that can significantly reduce the anastomosis leakage rate and is easy to deploy.
The device is currently at prototype stage and has been bench tested on analagous tissue. We are currently undertaking a series of iterative development cycles to improve the device design based on feedback from colorectal surgeons in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Skills Lab.

InDx Project
InDx is an EU funded Horizon 2020 project that seeks to develop an innovative orthopaedic implant that restores natural motion to patients with thumb base joint arthritis.
InDx is a two-year Fast Track to Innovation project that commenced in July 2019. MedVie assisted Loci Orthopaedics in drafting the successful grant proposal and are Project Managers of the resultant project. The Project Kick-off Meeting was held in Dublin on July 23rd 2019 attended by all four partners in the international project consortium.
The consortium is a group of innovative, world-leading, and complementary companies, who can significantly accelerate delivery of the InDx implant to market to meet a huge unmet clinical need. Loci Orthopaedics, EndoLab, and NAMSA have already started work on the performance testing and clinical trial plan required for EU regulatory approval. Medvie brings its strong expertise in medical device design, project management, and global commercialisation to the project and have initiated a commercialisation plan for the InDx implant.

TESTIMONIALS

ATXA Therapeutics – Awarded SME Instrument Phase 2 Grant
“Cristina’s support was invaluable to ATXA Therapeutics Ltd during the preparation of our SME Instrument Phase II application. Her templates were excellent, ensuring coverage of all aspects and leaving no stone unturned. Her timely and rigorous advice during the review of our draft application was of enormous benefit to us, particularly in respect of challenging our overall business model, financial considerations and advising on revisions to the structure of the application. I feel certain that Cristina’s support was pivotal in us securing funding.
On behalf of ATXA Therapeutics Ltd, I offer the strongest possible sup- port to Cristina in recommending her to any other applicants when filing either a Phase I or Phase II SME Instrument application or indeed when filing any other type of proposal. Should the situation arise again for ATXA in making other types of applications, we will most certainly engage Cristina’s support.”
