Medvie was established in Dublin, Ireland in 2014 to provide strategic market access and business development services for medical device companies. The company has significant experience in preparing, validating and realizing business innovation ideas and projects.

Medvie uses the latest design thinking methodologies to evaluate product-market fit and believes in building strong relationships with all healthcare stakeholders. The Medvie team have extensive experience in the healthcare field and a successful track record in the development and commercialisation of medical devices in the USA and Europe.



Leveraging our skills in medical device design and commercialisation acumen, MedVie are developing a pipeline of IP at the intersection of clinical need, technical feasibilty and commercial opportunity to create products that respond to the challenges faced by patients, clinicians and healthcare systems globally. We are currently developing a device that allows surgeons to safely and efficiently create an anastomosis (intestinal connection) during colorectal surgery.


MedVie are actively engaged in funded research projects as consortium partners where our involvement from funding application writing through grant agreement negotiation to project delivery is provided as a seamless end-to-end process. We can engage as project partners in a variety of roles including product development, commercialisation, project management, communication and dissemination.


We will work side by side with you according to your specific needs to prepare and submit successful proposals to national or international funding programs. Using expertise gained as External European Commission Evaluator of over 400 funding applications for Horizon 2020 programs, MedVie will help you avoid common mistakes saving you time and money and giving you the best chance of success in a competitive application process.

The Medvie team have extensive experience in the healthcare field and a successful track record in the development and commercialisation of medical devices in the USA and Europe. The Medvie team includes highly experienced product managers, product designers and researchers providing a complete range of market services for our clients. The team has previously participated in EU research projects and has extensive experience in the project management of medical device development projects.


Founder / CEO

Cristina Purtill (MBA) is the founder and CEO of Medvie. Cristina has fifteen years of experience in medical devices and IT businesses across Europe and the USA. She has a track record of successfully taking new products to global markets while working as a Global Product Manager with GE Healthcare in the USA and as an EMEA Healthcare Programs Manager for Dell in Ireland. Cristina obtained an MBA from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, USA.


Head of Design

Donal Healion has a B.Des in Industrial Design from NCAD and has held senior design, R&D and management roles in industry on an in-house and consultancy basis for over 15 years, delivering products to market from concept to launch. He completed a Masters in Medical Device Design in NCAD and his area of expertise is human factors and their influence on the design of products, environments and services leading to more intuitive and satisfying user experiences. Donal also lectures on Product Design and Medical Device Design in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin.



Stephen has a B.Sc in Product Design from the Dublin Institute of Technology and has completed a Masters of Science in Medical Device Design in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. In his role as R&D Engineer, Stephen is responsible for MedVie product development utilising his skills in concept generation, prototyping techniques and design development.

InDx Project Kick-Off Meeting

23rd July 2019

The InDx Project is an EU funded Horizon 2020 project that seeks to develop an innovative implant that restores natural motion to patients with thumb base joint arthritis. The project Kick-off Meeting was held in Dublin on July 23rd 2019 attended by representatives from each of the four partner organisations from across Europe. InDx Project coordinators, Loci Orthopaedics, and project managers MedVie, welcomed all participants and presented the project plan to achieve what will no doubt be a successful collaborative outcome.

MedVie receive Seal of Excellence for SME Instrument funding


24th June 2019

MedVie’s application for SME Instrument Phase 1 funding for the ThermoDiab project “was scored as a high-quality project proposal in a highly competitive evaluation process” following evaluation by an international panel of independent experts. The Seal of Excellence means passing all stringet Horizon 2020 assessment thresholds for the three award criteria (Excellence, Impact, Quality and efficiency of implementation) required to receive funding from the EU budget Horizon 2020.

MedVie secure Horizon 2020 project funding with Loci Orthopaedics

The InDx impant, developed by Loci Orthopaedics, is an innovative device that restores natural motion to patients with thumb base joint arthritis. MedVie and Loci Orthopaedics have secured EU “Fast Track to Innovation” H2020 funding to support a two year project to bring the InDx implant to market. The InDx consortium is a group of innovative, world-leading, and complementary companies, who can significantly accelerate the progression of the InDx implant to market and service a huge unmet clinical need.
